Zilla bags & accessories pure recycled elegance

Zilla, a new and elegant Italian bags and accessories Brand made of paperclips and old rugs? Established in 2005 by architect Sylvia Pichler in Bolzano, Zilla has conquered the hearts of tout hip Italy ever since.

Sylvia’s true Faith is “My Bag is My Castle”. Since she knew how all women put their whole households into their bags, it became her designers starting point. “Show me your bag and I tell you who you are” is properly true for every woman and often quoted by Sylvia.

It inspired her to get her grandmothers bags from the attic and use them as inspiration for her bag models. Bigger, handy and with a good grip. Nothing like the small clutch bags in which one can hardly fit a key and a mobile Phone.

During her architectonic education Sylvia took lessons from the Dutch teacher Johan Körmeling, who inspired her to design according to the theme ‘Home Sweet Home’. Instead of designing houses and office buildings, she started designing bags. Just for a joke. She made use of materials found in and on the house: shower curtains, carpet, linings, bicycle chains… using recycled materials as much as possible.

One of her new models, an alternative for the clutch bag, is a suede bag invisibly lined with a extreme thin layer of led. The clutch takes on every form it is folded. Zilla also introduces the cork bag, made of a layer of flexible and sustainable cork.

While the bags are drawn and designed in Bolzano at the kitchen table, Zilla employs several artisans in Padova a few Miles away.This way Sylvia Pichler keeps production very locally and close to home and the Italian market, reducing CO2 production.

Although…the Japanese fashionata seem to adore her bags, which were presented at the Salone di Mobile. Orders from Japan are overwhelming. And Yamamoto has shown interest in her bags designs.

ZILLA is introducing her new Spring/Summer 2010 collection with new models and materials, such as the cork bag. There is also an amazing new jewellery line, made of small gold colored locks with the looks of a CHANEL bracelet.
