Tara Scott’s Ethical Style… News & Reviews

by Tara Scott

EcoChic Magazine is delighted to be joined once again by our Ethical Stylish Tara Scott.

Tara is well known for her fabulous work on the BBC documentary Blood, Sweat and T-Shirts. A tireless campaigner for Ethical Fashion, environmental and human rights issues. We welcome Tara in her December Ethical Style, News and Reviews feature.

people-tree-socks-2009Cosy knits are bang on trend this season, and very practical when the weather is getting cold! I have gone for the People Tree ‘Carrie’ Cable Knit Cardigan, and the Bed Socks. They are both 100% wool and hand-knitted. I love wearing my Cardi with a thin waist belt over a vintage silk slip, or open over my Katherine E Hamnett ‘Clean Up or Die’ Vest-Dress for a more casual look.

The beautiful and inspiring Safia Minney of People Tree has been awarded an MBE for her amazing ‘Services to Fair Trade and Fashion’. I say ‘hat-off to you darling, you’re doing us all proud’. How lovely it is to see someone who has really been sticking her lovely neck out for Ethical Fashion and raising awareness about the problems and issues in the garment industry, recognised for her huge efforts!

nina-dolecetti-2009I will be begging Santa for these Nina Dolcetti shoe-boots! They are just devine! Pushing the boundaries and proving that eco really can be chic, Nina Dolcetti uses recycled leather to make her masterpieces. These beauties are £280, handmade to order (4-5 weeks). To see the full collection, and for information on stockists, visit  the Nina Dolcetti Boutique.

This month, I am indulging in Dr Wendy’s 100% Skin Care hand cream. In the harsh cold weather that is well and truly upon us now, my hands really suffer and need lots of TLC. Dr Wendy’s 100% Skin Care range is newly available in the UK (all the way from New Zealand!) and is made using New Zealand grown plant-based ingredients, it is 100% chemical free and is not tested on animals, plus it smells DELICIOUS!dr-wendys-range-i

boris-johnson-london-mayor-2009I’m not sure how many of you noticed, but in Boris’s campaign for mayor, he promised us that he would make sure that London received much needed Rape Crises Centres, and what a nice promise that was. Shame he hasn’t stuck to it then! Which is very unnerving when there is talk of spending £15M on a ‘London Eifel Tower’ for him to be remembered by! If you are as concerned as me about this disappointing outcome of ‘democracy’, please ask Boris what he is doing with our money HERE.

shoreditch-sisters-iiThe Shoreditch Sisters WI Christmas Fete will be the shopping event to be seen at this season! The Shoreditch Sisters are the savvy domesticated feminists who kick started the WI revival amongst trendy young women. Their Christmas Fete will be full of London’s trendy youth buying and selling hand-crafts, vintage clothes, home-made chutneys and cakes, and vintage china. There will be mulled wine, make-your-own Christmas decorations and cards, live music including Christmas carols, and of course a Raffle! All this fun will be supporting a local women’s refuge centre.

Until Next time, Love Tara x
