ART: Renowned fashion photographer, Rankin’s FROM CONGO WITH LOVE exhibition is on at the National Theatre 12 Feb – 11 April and is set to be a heart warming success. Not least because it is free!
The photographer visited the Congo with Oxfam in October 2009 where he held photography workshops with the local people, facilitating their ability to communicate their own life stories within this troubled region. The exhibition consists of 200 images taken by the people themselves, as well as a number of portraits taken by Rankin. The photos depict the love and happiness, which is so admirable amongst people whose lives have been touched by so much grief.

So that’s why it is just great that our trusty Green People have brought out a new collection of certified organic mineral make up. So we can be kind to our skin whilst having a minimum impact on this beautiful planet! I have the pressed powder and I absolutely love it, I have offloaded my inferior Mac on to my grateful mum! Available at Greenpeople.

LONDON FASHION WEEK: All the top fashion people from all over the world will be flocking to our lovely capital city this month for the hottest fashion event of the year, London Fashion Week. This February will mark the 7th season of Estethica, the ethical initiative of the British Fashion Council. Over this time it has grown from including just 13 to an impressive 28 of ethical fashion’s top designers. The exhibition is sure to be an exciting and varied testimony to eco-chic.

CATWALK: While we’re in the fashion mood, the Fairware Fashion Show, hosted by Bristol Fairtrade Network will be happening on Saturday 25th Feb at Bristol Cathedral. The show will include 12  ethical fashion collections, including the showcase of Emma Watson’s ‘Love Emma’ in collaboration with People Tree. I will be there, giving a talk about finding your own style within ethical fashion. If anyone would like to find out more or buy tickets, visit the Fairware website.
FASHION: Despite the tantalising release of Spring Summer collections in the shops this month, it is still unbearably cold! I will be purchasing myself one of these lovely Make Piece scarf’s for the winter-spring transition. I absolutely love the colour of this scarf, which amazingly enough is made simply by mixing the wool of black, brown and (British free-range farmed) white sheep! I am also fantasizing about purchasing this gorgeous brushed mohair poncho, I have tried it on and it is so so chic, and so cosy-warm! If only I had found it before Christmas!  www.makepiece.co.uk

campaigns1xCAMPAIGNS: 6th Feb saw International Zero Tolerance to FGM Day, a disappointingly little-recognised holiday calling for the end of the atrocious human rights violation Female Genital Mutilation.
FGM is carried out on 2 million young girls a year, that’s 6000 a day! That’s 5 every minute! As this month will also see a lot of events supporting the admirable work of V-Day, I thought it would be a good time to tell you about a fun creative campaign to raise awareness about and draw attention to this issue. The campaign is called ‘Embroideries’ after the Persian word used to refer to the procedure. It is a collection of needle-work vulvas, donated my a variety of contributors, and is designed to break down the taboos that reinforce this heinous practice. Join the facebook group HERE

Until next time, Love Tara x
