Esthetica Press Day 2009
by Deborah Miarkowska
esthetica Press Day SS10-November 11th 2009.
EcoChic Magazine were thrilled to be invited to last weeks Esthetica Press Day, where creativity, fashion and ethics were abound.
estethica is the Britsh Fashion Council’s eco sustainable initiative sponsored by Monsoon. Now in its seventh season, it has evolved to become the epicentre for London’s ethical fashion industry; the success of this initiative, the strongest of its kind, is evident in its rapid growth; from its first season of 13 designers, nine new labels join for SS10 to make this season’s estethica a collective of 28 designers.
New to the initiative for September were The North Circular, a new brand started by models Lily Cole and Katherine Poulton in association with estethica veteran Izzy Lane, which focuses on rescuing sheep from slaughter, natural yarns, UK local cottage industry and knitting grannies. Also new was AJNA, a classic, high profile brand designed by Beryl Man, former knitwear design director at Donna Karan.
estethica collaborated with a panel of industry “mentors” including Brand Consultant Susanne Tide-Frater, Liberty’s Creative Consultant Yasmin Sewell, and buying consultant Bev Malik, who took an active part in brand development and advice for estethica designers. The industry mentors offered support to the brands throughout the season, as well as helping with editing and display at LFW.
estethica is co-curated by Orsola de Castro, founder of green label From Somewhere, Filippo Ricci and The British Fashion Council.
