Tara’s New Year Ethical Style Diaries
by Tara Scott
Each month EcoChic Magazine is delighted to welcome our Ethical Stylist Tara Scott from the well known BBC Documentary Blood,Sweat & T-Shirts.
A New Year and new beginnings and Tara shares her fresh and lively ideas for Eco & Chic Living, for the home, for that New Year purchase and introduces us to her very own label.
HOME
If your new years resolution is to redecorate your home, I hope you will like this. I have fallen in love with this gorgeous Burlesque design Wallpaper, printed using ecological inks on recycled paper. The design is clear proof that choosing eco does not compromise style. It is the perfect finish for any glamorous boudoir, or a quirky addition to any room in the house. Available at EcoCentric.com
ON MY WISHLIST
I love this ‘Maria’ Dress from Minna. Made from exclusive vintage fabric, it is truly original, unique and timeless in style. Minna are doing brilliant things for the face of eco-chic fashion, I love their work. This dress would look great with a vintage tapestry bag, like the ones seen on the Fendi catwalk for SS10.
WHAT I’M BUYING
This Sunday I will be skipping down to Columbia Road Market to visit upstairs shop to buy my 2010 Journal. This shop is an Alladin’s cave of recycled bits and bobs like lovely hand-made jewellery and accessories as well as clothes and books. I will be picking up one of the Journals made from an old book, and whatever else tickles my fancy!
JEWELLERY
Love Heals is a family-run business that truly operates by the mantra that love can heal. They plant 10 fruit trees in a village in Africa; protect an undernourished child from blindness for a year; and help a child out of slavery in Darfur for every purchase made! So get shopping! The only set back is that their shipping costs a fair bit to the UK, I have enlisted a friend to receive mine for me and post it via a cheaper service, they have free shipping for USA and Canada.
Tara’s own BLOG
Anyone interested in a day-by-day account of how dressing eco really can be chic, take a peek at my new blog Fashion With A Heart and please click ‘follow’ if you like what you see. It is still in its early stages, and recent weather does not allow much in the way of experimentation with a variety of outfits, I can’t wait for summer when I’m sure my posts will become a lot more regular!
EVENTS
At this time of the year, it is easy to get swept up in the hype of the sales and find yourself committing eco-sins on the high street! So reign yourselves in and direct your spending towards ethical fashion label Tara Starlet’s 50% off January Sale. Tara Starlet is a London based business run by my mum and myself! We use reclaimed and recycled fabrics and manufacture all our clothes locally.
Until Next Time, Love Tara x
