Brighton’s Vibrant Climate Connections Exhibition
by Deborah Miarkowska
Climate Connections is an exciting new project looking at the impact of climate change, both locally and globally. It links stories of people from different parts of the world to those living in Brighton & Hove. The aim is to raise awareness of global poverty and engage residents and communities across the city in taking action on climate change.
What
Climate Connections explores what individuals and communities are doing to lessen the effect of and adapt to climate change. It shows how individuals across the world are united through the challenge of climate change and the task of inspiring individuals to take action.
Who
The Climate Connections exhibition was originally launched back in March this year in Jubilee Square and is part of the wider Climate Connections partnership project between Brighton Peace & Environment Centre, Brighton & Hove City Council and Oxfam GB to promote local community projects, initiatives, organisations and businesses which can help local residents act to lessen the impact they have on the world around them.
When & Where
Climate Connections was launched in Jubilee Square, Brighton at the end of March 2010 and the exhibition is again featuring from today on Brighton Seafront sited on the mosaic area along the sea-front promenade, just down the steps from the bandstand.
Family EcoChic went down to visit the photo exhibition earlier today and it is truly fantastic. The tall pillars of images links people’s stories from different parts of the world with stories from Brighton & Hove and illustrate vibrantly how people are being affected by climate change and how they are adapting their lives or are taking action, either individually or as a community. We were thrilled to see that Ursula was featured, see our earlier campaign HERE.
Every Saturday and Sunday during the four week period there will be a stall next to the exhibition with people handing out information on Climate Connections and other local and national campaigns and projects, including Brighton & Hove 10:10, Greenpeace and the Green Centre.
BPEC and it’s partners aims to….
- Follow stories of people from different parts of the world and facilitate their contribution to the issues and challenges surrounding climate change.
- Suggest ideas for taking positive action. These could be anything from getting together as a group and deciding to start an allotment, looking into sharing cars or ways to change your diet, start cycling, insulate your home and so on.
- Provide information on city-wide environmental projects and community initiatives to get involved in, and links, advice and updates to help you take action.
We want to reach out to as many community groups and individuals as possible and create a space where people feel confident to explore what they can do about climate change, or publicise what they already do.
