With Miksani there is so much more
by Deborah Miarkowska
Luxury organic womenswear label Miksani, has launched its Spring/Summer 2010 collection with the introduction of a new range of organic silks and banana fibres to our boutique at EcoChic Collection.
The Miksani collection, which is all made from sustainable fabrics, utilises materials that are produced by skilled, artisan workers from WFTO or FLO certified manufacturers based in India and Nepal. The designs are modern and quirky, combining a fusion of hand woven organic cottons alongside chiffon patterns.
Miksani has also teamed up with print designer, Lucy Dixon, to create an exciting, new range of prints. The ‘Scales’ design features a number of organic, silk garments which available in our EcoChic Boutique.
In addition to offering fair-trade, organic clothing, Miksani’s Spring/Summer 2010 has extended its green credentials on step further by introducing a carbon neutral range of organic cottons.
Says Miksani owner and designer, Katie Weightman, ‘We’re very excited to introduce a carbon-neutral range to our Spring/Summer 2010 collection. It’s so important that everyone works to reduce their impact on the environment, especially manufacturers, so I hope this encourages other clothing companies to take similar steps.”
Miksani has been working with a Mexican company, called Piqqo, that helps local land owners to manage their forest in a sustainable way. Piqqo has developed an innovative labelling system that allows manufacturers to sell carbon neutral products. By calculating the carbon emissions from all stages of a product lifecycle, Piqqo provide carbon neutral labels offsetting emissions through one of their hand-picked projects. Each label carries a unique serial number that allows customers to trace the offset back to the project.
