Frugi Fundraiser helps provide education for Mumbai Orphans

Whilst enjoying a wonderful holiday in Cornwall in the last few days, we were delighted to meet with the Frugi team.
Based near Helston, Cornwall, Frugi create gorgeous organic and ethical cotton clothes for babies, toddlers and kids , with tops for mum and have recently raised vital funds for Navbharat, a Mumbai Orphanage. We’d like to share their story with you.
Frugi’s recent Sample Sale raised over £2000 as parents flocked to gain organic and ethical clothing bargains. All proceeds will ensure schooling for Navbharat Orphanage children who otherwise live in desperate slum conditions in Mumbai, India. Frugi are now able to provide sponsorship for thirteen children, of all ages, to a life changing education and a chance to leave their Slumdog Millionaire lifestyle.Word about the Frugi Sale had spread across Cornwall far and wide, with visitors as far afield as Totnes and Leicestershire. Parents are now enjoying their purchases knowing that their contribution is helping children as young as one month old and rescued from life threatening situations and desperate conditions. Frugi’s partner, The Navbharat Orphanage, provides a safe and caring home with food, clothing and healthcare along with admission to local schools and a more promising future.
This ongoing project, in conjunction with Frugi’s manufacturers, enables Frugi to keep in touch with the children’s progress. Lucy Jewson reports “Soniya, one of our sponsored children, was just one month old when she was discovered, with no parents, in a prostitute district. Now 4 years old we’ll ensure she can attend school and have a better chance in life - it’s great that Cornish support can have such a positive effect for these children. Those who have watched the Oscar nominated film, Slumdog Millionaire, will realise what severe poverty people endure every day.”
Frugi recently supported a local Tribal School providing fresh water bore hole, toilet facilities, shoes for the children’s long daily walk, educational resources and food. Closer to home the company support Cornwall Wildlife Trust’s Marine Strandings Network working towards effective marine mammals’ conservation through their 1% for the Planet Membership - giving 1% of turnover whether profit or loss to the Charity.
