Cards From Africa

Cards from Africa - Beautiful cards. Better lives.

Rachel was just 13 when her mum died - her sister was 9 and her brother just 6. Their father had died many years before. Unwanted by relatives, unable and unwilling to feed extra mouths, she suddenly became the head of the household, barely surviving by whatever she could grow on their meagre plot of land. Soon afterwards she left school, having gone from top of her class to bottom, and resigned herself to a life of survival. Cards from Africa, a small but growing business on the outskirts of Kigali in Rwanda, learned about Rachel when she was 18, and offered her work making hand-made greeting cards.

cards-from-africaFounded in 2004, Cards from Africa, was set up exclusively to create dignifying employment for the likes of Rachel, orphaned by the 1994 genocide or from diseases like AIDS and malaria. They are paid strong wages, which enables them to pay for food, shelter, health care, and school materials for their younger siblings.
Currently employing over 60 young people aged 18-25, Cards from Africa has been registered as a fair-trade organisation for over two years. Using handmade paper from office waste, the orphaned youth currently produce over 120 different beautiful cards for all occasions. To date they have sold greeting cards in over 20 countries worldwide, and are creating more and more employment each year as demand for their cards increase.

cards-from-africa-card-iiCards from Africa will soon launch their UK initiative for Traders, allowing people to sell the cards through card parties, brochure drops, and craft fairs. Traders will be able to work when they want to, with no minimum order required, and with no targets or pressure. Interested Traders should contact http://info@cardsfromafrica.com for more information. Sell beautiful cards at great prices, earn some money, and help change lives - all at the same time!
Rachel now works on the management team at Cards from Africa.
