Planet EcoChic October 2009

by Kate Griffiths

Hello there EcoChic fashionistas!!

We have been busy bees here at Ecochic educating, collaborating and developing the collection, there’s just so much to tell!!

towers-fashion-show-iiiFirstly, our EcoChic fashion show, held at the Towers Independent girl’s school last week, was truly electric! We gave eight girls the chance to strut their stuff and show case our new range of ethical school wear in front of a crowd of more than 250 puplils and teachers.
The girls delighted the audience with their seamless routine and looked like they thoroughly enjoyed the experience as they confidently beamed from ear to ear smiling and posing for the cameras. It was a celebration of confidence and creativity all rolled up in an ethically educative day.

The girls not only got to see first hand how ethically produced berets, gloves and scarves can have great style and quality but they really learnt some lessons around fair trade, ecology and sustainability issues. Things we are passionate about and believe children should all be learning about!

View the range for yourself here.

Please send us an email if you are interested in us launching a range of ethical school accessories and perhaps holding a fashion show at your child’s school.

Remember the 2008 BBC show “Blood Sweat and T-Shirts”, the show that unravelled the “glamour” of fashion and brought us pictures of poverty-stricken women and children in India sewing clothes for a mere £2 a day? Well, EcoChic Magazine are pleased to announce that the lovely Tara Scott who starred in that very show and who has submerged herself in campaigning for ethical fashion ever since, is joining us as our ethical stylist. She will be updating us on trends, campaigns, eco-news and doing some interviews. We are so excited about this addition to the team - Welcome Tara!

What else we are excited about…

jen-marsden-fashion-going-green-ii

As we mentioned in our ‘Going Green in the Mainstream’ article back in August, we are delighted that ethical fashion really is making its own way and becoming progressively more mainstream.

So we are of course, thrilled at the news that two Eco-fashion designers Monique Pean and Alabama Chanin have been nominated for the very prestigious Vogue CDFA (The Council of Fashion Designers of America) award. We think this indicates a real progression and acceptance. We will be keeping our fingers crossed for both designers and of course, will let you know in November when the winners are announced!
